Charles Foster was born in Jackson, Mississippi, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Hill Foster, Sr.

he met his future bride in French class and was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha social fraternity.

A 1951 graduate of University of Mississippi, Mr. Foster began a career with South Central Bell

Methodist Church on July 3, 1953 and recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.

Mr. Foster served as an elder at Covenant Presbyterian Church, Jackson; Grace Chapel

Presbyterian, Madison, Mississippi; and Mountain Brook Presbyterian, Birmingham. He was a

Life Master in Bridge, a Meals on Wheels volunteer and an avid reader. He enjoyed travel,

tennis at River Hills Club, water skiing, Broadway musicals, theatre, and classical music. He

retired from the phone company in 1988 in Jackson and moved to Birmingham in 2006.

He is predeceased by his parents and his sister Bettye Foster Wilder. He is survived by his wife,

Elizabeth Lester Foster; daughters, Sylvia Foster Page (Frank), Edith Foster Lyon (David), and

He leaves a legacy of deep Christian faith and service and a devoted love of family and dear

friends. He was the ultimate southern gentleman. A family graveside service will be held in

Jackson, Mississippi. Memorials may be made to Mountain Brook Presbyterian Church and

Jimmie Hale Mission, both in Birmingham.

Well done, good and faithful servant.
