Cecil W. “Lanny” Landrum, Jr., age 78 went to be with our Lord and Savior on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. Funeral services will be 12:00 pm, Wednesday, April 24, 2024 at Lakewood Funeral Home, Jackson, MS with burial following at Clinton City Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 10:00 am at the funeral home.
Lanny was born on July 8, 1945 in Jackson, MS to Cecil W. Landrum, Sr. and Doris Marie Bass Landrum. He graduated from Clinton High School where he was a member of the band. He attended Hinds Jr. College and received an associates degree.
He served in the U.S. Navy on the USS Amphion and then in the Naval Reserve.
His passion was being a firefighter and was one of the first volunteer firefighters in Clinton, MS. He started his career with the Jackson Fire Dept in 1973 and retired as Captain with 23 years of service. During this time, he taught Fire Science at Hinds Jr. College for a short period of time.
After retiring from JFD, he served in the Office of Public Safety at Mississippi College as a patrol officer and Interim Director until 1999. He finished his working career with MS Bureau of Narcotics as Facilities Manager retiring after 11 years.
He was a kind unique loving man who never met a stranger and was a devoted friend to many. Lanny was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone. He was a talented musician, woodworker, and storyteller. His smile and laughter will be missed.
Lanny is preceded in death by his parents.
Lanny is survived by his loving wife of 42 years, Pam Landrum, his sons, Scott and David (Daphne) Landrum, daughter, Misti (Steven) Walters and his grandchildren, Sydney Landrum, Addison, Presley, & Shelby Grace Landrum, and Jeremiah Walters. He is also survived by his sister, Gency (Charlie) Dykes and numerous nieces and nephews.
