Cecil, was born July 9, 1929, near Lena MS, in Leak County. Shortly after marrying Delorous Johnson in 1951 he served in the US Navy and Air Force for nine years during the Korean conflict. While aboard ship in Japan, after reading a Bible placed by the Gideons, he asked the Lord to be his personal Savior. He surrendered to preach while stationed in San Angelo, TX, received Bible training, and founded Trinity Bible Church in Jackson, MS, where he pastored for over 35 years. Cecil enjoyed spending time in his garden, doing carpentry work, and spending time with his family and church members.
Cecil was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Odell Burnside, his wife, Delorous Johnson Burnside (46 years), and his siblings, Corine Porter, Vivian Gilbert, Thomas Burnside, and Marydean Sharplin.
Cecil is survived by his wife, Faye, his sister Maedell Smith, and his daughters Jean (Vernon Bearden, deceased), Sherry (Randy Coker), and Judy (Don Brewster); 7 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren.
Cecil’s family will host a funeral service on Wednesday, June 2, at Lakewood Funeral Home & Memorial Park in Clinton, MS. The 2:00 visitation will be immediately followed by the memorial service at 3:00.
The family is very appreciative of the neighbors, friends, and caregivers who shared in Cecil’s care during his last earthly days.
