“We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.” Hebrews 6:19 Carolyn Ann Thompson McKee, a resident of Zachary, LA, and a native of Hattiesburg, MS, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, April 3, 2017. She was retired, after working as the owner of Western Auto of Zachary, LA for over 27 years with her late husband, John McKee. Visitation will be at the Lakewood Funeral Home of Jackson, MS on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 10:00am until funeral services at 11:30am conducted by Dr. Wayne Barnes. There will be a graveside service immediately following at the Lakewood Memorial Park in Jackson, MS. She is survived by one daughter, Ann McKee Calhoun and her husband Kent Calhoun of McKinney, TX; two grandsons, John Kent Calhoun and Cameron Thomas Calhoun; her brother, Lonnie Hailey Thompson and wife Pattie Thompson of Gainesville, FL; her sister-in-laws Mary Louise McKee of Orange, TX and Alice McKee Henderson of Jackson, MS and various nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, John Max McKee and her parents Bertha Moore Thompson Thomas and Lonnie Hailey Thompson. Pallbearers will be Kent Calhoun, John Kent Calhoun, Cameron Calhoun, Clyde Vernon McKee, III and Robert McKee. Carolyn McKee was a lady of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ and had a deep heart of love and compassion for others. She was a wonderful listener and inspired many people to find and follow Jesus. She had a great laugh and particularly loved the fun of two grandsons “her little boys” who called her Kee. Carolyn graduated from the University of Maryland after attending Mary Washington College where she majored in speech and dramatics with a minor in psychology. Carolyn was a member of First Baptist Church of Zachary and the Grace Sunday School class. She enjoyed many years of Bridge Club and Book Club, was a Sunday School teacher to young married adults and a YWCA leader. She also substitute taught in the Zachary schools during the early 70s. The family wishes to give special thanks to her faithful caregivers Alisa Claiborne, Thelma Irvin, Terri Chester and Mercedes Dunbar of Dunbar’s Home Care. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to the First Baptist Church of Zachary.
