Calvin Claud Moore, Jr. “C.C.” passed away on Thursday, December 24, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family after a long battle and suffering a major stroke in 2013. Born on August 31, 1946 at the old Jackson Infirmary this became St. Dominic Hospital. He was one of the first babies to be born there, to Calvin Claud Moore, Sr. and Mary Edwina Gibbons Moore, after the Dominican Sisters assumed operations in downtown Jackson, MS.
C.C. graduated from Forest Hill High School in 1964. Following graduation he enlisted into the US Marine Corp and proudly served our country as an E5 Combat Veteran from September 9, 1964 to September 6, 1968. After returning from Vietnam, in 1971 he graduated from Delta State University with a degree in Criminal Justice. From there he worked with several law enforcement agencies. In 1977 worked with Jackson Police Department, but before retiring in 1990, C.C. was able to enjoy being a member of the JPD Motor Squad. He was able to do one of his favorite pastimes while at work. He was a member of St. Peters Catholic Church in downtown Jackson, MS., and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a Harley Davidson enthusiast. “Ms Memphis” would carry him to places he always wanted to visit. C.C. always fit into any crowd. He had one of the biggest hearts and would help anyone. He always had a tender spot for the needy. Ezekiel 3:16-20 being his favorite Bible verse. Also, C.C. loved all kinds of music ‘some most people have never heard’ his favorite being “Three Little Birds” and “Soulshine.” He was often heard saying, “Everything is gonna be alright and always let your soul shine.” Favorite phrase “I’m Sitting On Top Of The World.”
Preceding him in death are his parents, father Calvin Claud Moore, Sr. and mother Mary Edwina Gibbons Moore, both from Lauderdale County, MS. Calvin loved his family deeply.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Diane Whitehead Moore; daughter, Daphne Moore; son, Justin Moore and his wife Heather; two grandsons, Avery Moore and Oliver; sister, Gay Nell Moore Conley and her husband Larry; niece, Katy Conley and her husband Syl and their three children Alex, Shane and Helena along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be at Lakewood Funeral Home on Monday, December 28, 2015 and visitation from 5 to 7 pm on Monday with memorial at 7 pm. Mass will be held on Tuesday, December 29 at 2 pm at St. Peters Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Lakewood Memorial Park.
