Bruce Bedford Howe passed away on May 25, 2023 at his home in Clinton, MS at the age of 89, and will be dearly missed. Born on Jan 24, 1934 in Kansas City, Missouri, he was the only child of Cecil and Opal Howe.
Bruce met his future wife, Joyce Saway, on the campus of South Eastern Louisiana College. They soon married and had two sons while living in Baton Rouge. They were married 66 years, prior to Joyce’s passing in 2022. Bruce, after attending South Eastern Louisiana College, then attended Louisiana State University, where he obtained a Master’s degree in Geology and Geophysics.
Bruce ‘s career started with Mobile, and he rose through the ranks, living in various areas of the U.S., including Texas, Wyoming, California, and Colorado. After a career with Mobile he continued his career as an oil exploration consultant, which meant he traveled the world, in various areas, including Egypt, Indonesia, Columbia, Peru, and Russia. He loved his work, and was reluctant to retire. Bruce’s favorite saying was, “I never worked a day in my life, because I loved what I did."
Bruce loved to travel and meet new people. He loved geology, often teaching his young sons about geological formations while on road trips. Later in life, he loved teaching his grandchildren about geology. He was also interested in new technology and its application in oil exploration. He also loved spending time with his family and his friends in Mississippi and Colorado.
Bruce is preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Joyce. He is survived by his sons, Robert (Julie) of Bend, OR, David (Patty) of Boise, ID, and his two grandchildren, Kelsey and Kyle. In lieu of flowers, make a donation to your favorite charity, and let someone know you love them.
