Nell was born November 8, 1926 in the Line Creek community near Morton, MS to Barney Otis and Lollye Myers. She is preceded in death by her husband E.R. “Jack” Stanley and dear sister Merle Crumpton
She is survived by her brother Wayne Myers , sister Fay Rogers, daughter- Sherrie Anderson (Mike), Son Bill Stanley (Angie), Grandchildren David Anderson (Elissa), Lauren Knisley (Seth), Jamie Anderson, Anna Cathryn Anderson, Jack Conway Stanley, and Olivia Marie Stanley
She was also Great Grandmother “GG” to John David Anderson, James Tate Anderson, Clara Grace Anderson , Audrey Laine Knisley, and Anderson Alexander Knisley.
Nell spent the majority of her life in south Jackson where she was known to generations of children , families, and counselors as “Miss Nell” from her years as a kindergarten teacher at Alta Woods Baptist Kindergarten and as Director of the Southwest YMCA.
She was an active and dedicated member for over 60 combined years at Alta Woods Baptist Church and First Baptist Church Madison where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, was active in WMU, participated on various committees and served as a Sunday morning greeter at the front door. Among Nell’s many additional acts of service, she especially loved gathering up food and gifts around the holidays and personally delivering them to families in need.
Nell will long be remembered for her work establishing a Sunday School ministry specifically providing support and community for formerly married church members. This work and ministry extended well beyond Sunday as Nell's kitchen became a constant gathering place for company and comfort among the members. For the past 6 years she was a member of Johnson Ferry Baptist Church in Marietta, GA.
Nell lived her life serving God and truly loved everyone she met.
The family would like to extend special gratitude for the gifted and dedicated staff at Parc at Piedmont Retirement Home and Solana East Cobb memory care unit .They are truly angels among us.
A celebration of life will be held in Nell’s honor at First Baptist Church Madison on Tuesday November 3rd at 11am. Due to Covid risk- There will be no visitation or graveside service.
In lieu of flowers- donations may be made to Kate’s Club whose work empowers children and young adults facing life after the death of a parent or sibling.
