Arnold A. Pressgrove, age 84, of Brandon, Mississippi passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 3, 2023. Arnold was born in Charleston, Mississippi on April 11, 1939 to Rev. and Mrs. Hal A. Pressgrove and Louise Allison Pressgrove.
Arnold graduated from East Tallahatchie High School in 1957 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Mississippi State University. Subsequently, he served in the United States Army stationed in Washington DC. During his time in the service, he also served in Idaho with the United States Forestry Commission fighting wild fires. Upon discharge, Arnold began his 35 year career with IBM as a Systems Engineer. He was always a big traveler each summer vacationing across the US. However, after retirement, he and Jane enjoyed traveling much more. They can boast of visiting all 50 US states at least once, most more than once. Arnold FIERCELY loved his wife and family, second only to his love for the Lord, Christ Jesus. His whole hearted devotion to the Lord was the source of his servant heart toward whomever was in need. He could always be found on Sundays and Wednesdays serving in his church body of 60 years. Of that 60 years, he taught Sunday School for more than 50 years starting with the youth in the late 60’s and concluding with the senior adults in 2022. He also served as church clerk for 47 years beginning at Bailey Avenue Church of God in the early 80’s and very recently concluding at Christway Church. He could also be found serving behind the scenes to do whatever was needed whether maintenance work, cleaning, or lawn maintenance. Arnold was a true picture of a Christ follower in spirit and in deed.
To know Arnold was to love him. He was the kindest most gentle man with a VERY dry sense of humor. His memory will live on in all of our memories with a thousand dry wit one liners. We will all miss him terribly. However, we can rejoice knowing Arnold’s faith has become sight. Jesus, the One for whom he lived so passionately is the one who took him by the hand Sunday evening and led him Home. We are confident that he heard the Father say, “Well done, Thy good and faithful servant…”
Arnold is survived by his wife of 57 ½ years, Jane Pressgrove; his daughter Janna Pinter (husband-Jeff); two grandsons, Collin Pinter (wife-Brittany) and Brady Pinter; and one GREAT GRANDson, Baker Pinter. He is also survived by his sister Yvonne Bertolet and many nieces and nephews.
Arnold was preceded in death by his son Keith Arnold Pressgrove; his parents Hal and Louise A Pressgrove; and his brother Guy A (Bubba) Pressgrove.
The family would like to thank his nurses and care team at Brandon Nursing and Rehab along with the staff and nurses at Heart of Hospice for the care they provided over the last month and a half.
A visitation for Arnold will be held Thursday, December 7, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Lakewood Funeral Home, 6011 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, Mississippi 39209, followed by a celebration of life at 2:00 PM. He will be laid to rest in Lakewood Memorial Park, 6000 Clinton Blvd, Jackson, MS 39209.
At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the building fund of Christway Church, 1501 Old Fannin Rd, Flowood, MS 39232.
