Nelda Joan Lucas

Of Jackson, passed away on Wednesday, February 22, 2017 at the age of 86, while under the care of the staff at Arbor Manor Care Center. She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Lowell A. Lucas; daughter, Deborah Lucas; two sons, Mark A. Lucas and Matt D. Lucas; two grandchildren, Joshua Orintas and Christina Lucas; three great grandchildren; as well as several nieces, nephews, loving family members, and friends. She was preceded in death by grandson, Eric Lucas; sister, Vada Fisher; and brother, Orvind Scherer. Nelda was born to Orville A. and Treva (Shaffer) Scherer. After graduating from high school she completed studies and received a nursing degree from Miami Valley School of Nursing. She and Mr. Lucas were married in Ohio on June 14, 1953. They relocated to Jackson with their young family shortly after. Nelda was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She retired from Kroger (Westside). She had a strong faith in the Lord and was an active member of Trinity Wesleyan Church. She touched the hearts of many and will be greatly missed. A service honoring her life will be held at Chas. J. Burden & Son Funeral Home on Monday, February 27, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. She will be laid to rest at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
