Of Jackson, MI passed away on Friday, July 12, 2024 at the age of 78. Nancy was born in Jackson, MI on June 9, 1946 to parents William Edward Wygant and June Frances (Bliss) Wygant. Nancy was born in and lived most of her life in Jackson. After spending two years at Stephens College in Columbia, MO, she graduated from Western Michigan University with a degree in education. In 1969, she married her high school sweetheart, Terry Naylor, beginning a loving marriage lasting 55 years. She taught in Jackson Elementary schools for several years before staying home to raise her daughter, Sara. In 1977 she became a tutor for students with dyslexia. She continued this path to become the Director of the Jackson Branch of the Michigan Dyslexia Institute and a Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners and Educators. Wanting to create a unique opportunity for students in the Jackson area, she founded the Reading Writing Connection which continued to serve the community until 2020. She was passionate about her work and improved the lives of hundreds of students over many years. Nancy was a founding member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where she was a youth group leader and Sunday school teacher. She retired in 2012 to focus on family, especially her beloved granddaughter, Claire. She enjoyed traveling and spending time in northern Michigan. Nancy is survived by her husband Terry Naylor; daughter Sara (Adam) Cramton; granddaughter Claire Jane Cramton; siblings Mark (Angel) Wygant, Wendy (Steve) Wygant, and Cynthia Wygant; nieces Allie Davis, Abbie Davis, Anna Stephens, and Emily Wygant; and nephew William Wygant. She was preceded in death by her parents William Edward Wygant and June Frances Wygant. The family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Malcolm Trimble and the staff at the Henry Ford Health Jackson Hematology & Oncology Department for the exceptional care provided over several years. A celebration of Nancy’s life will be held on Wednesday, July 24, 2024 from 5:00 PM-8:00 PM at Cascades Manor House 1970 Kibby Rd Jackson MI 49203. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2301 Ridgeway Rd., Jackson, MI 49203.
