Melissa Freeman

Of Jackson, MI passed away on May 19, 2021 at the age of 69. Melissa was born in Mariemont, OH on November 17, 1952 to parents Charles Harry and Emily Scott Cooley. She married Michael Steven Freeman in Jackson on June 4, 2008. Melissa was a claims processor for Blue Cross/Blue Shield. She also worked in the commercial estimating department for several years with three air conditioning firms becoming a member of the Society of Professional Estimators before being hired by a fire sprinkler firm. She later went into property management in Jackson, MI after her husband passed away. Melissa had a love for car racing and followed NHRA and drag racing with a passion, which was a loved she shared with her late husband Mike and her brother Stuart. Her other pursuits were golf, becoming a member of the Executive Women's Golf Association in Saratoga, FL before moving to Jackson, MI where she more recently played golf with a local group of women, and bowling. Melissa will always be remembered for her vivacious laugh and love of life. Her compassion and love for people will always be missed in those that knew her. She truly exemplified the true spirit of "be kind to others". "Heaven must be a better place with you there" best describes how family and friends deeply feel with her passing. Melissa is survived by her stepson Michael S. Freeman II of Sarasota, FL; siblings Charles Scott Cooley of Ft. Myers, FL, Melanie Richard of Davis, WV, Melinda Major of Venice, FL, James Bruce Cooley of Sarasota, FL, and Troy Kerans Cooley of Nokomos, FL; and in-laws Michael and Dana Crouch of Jackson, MI, Susie Shaffer of Cape Canaveral, FL, and George and Peggy Freeman of Winder, GA. She is preceded in death by her husband Michael S. Freeman, parents Charles and Emily Cooley, and brother Loren Stuart Cooley. Cremation has been chosen with no services at this time.
