James M. Kerr of Jackson, MI passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 23, 2022 surrounded by his family, at the age of 91. James was born in Lackey, Kentucky on December 26, 1930 to his parents James M. and Laura (Green) Kerr. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War where he received five Bronze service stars. James liked to be his own boss and owned two different gas stations at different times during his life here in Jackson, MI. He also worked for railroads in California and Michigan. James was an outdoors man who loved to hunt and fish. He owned his own gun and tackle store in Jackson, MI for several years until retirement. He loved his dogs and had several throughout his life. James is survived by his daughter; Cynthia Fox, two sons; James M. Kerr Jr. and Robert (Ann) Kerr, three grandchildren; Omar Fox, Autumn (Scott) Friend, and James M. Kerr III, several great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister; Sue Nanian, one brother Doug Kerr, brother in law John Johnson. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years Stella (Ruiz) Kerr, Sisters Mary Franco and Joyce Johnson, brother; William Kerr, parents; James M. Kerr and Laura (Green) Kerr. James will be missed by all who knew him. The family will receive friends for visitation on Sunday, August 28, 2022 at Burden & Patience-Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave.) from 2:00 - 5:00 PM. James will be laid to rest Monday, August 29, 2022 at Lincoln- Pomeroy Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
