Formerly of Jackson, entered his heavenly home on Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at the age of 98. He was born to George and Helena (Hinze) Bock on May 24, 1919 in Owosso, Michigan. George proudly served in the United States Army during WWII. He married Ada Shearman and enjoyed 49 years of marriage with her. He worked for over 35 years for the nation’s railway system. At age 72 he obtained his high school diploma and was honored to be asked to deliver the opening remarks at the graduation ceremony of his class. George and Ada raised two children, Robert (Marilin) Bock and Karen (Jay) Bylsma and had four grandchildren, Jonathon, Jaclyn, Jessica and Jeremy as well as six great grandchildren. George was a lifelong member of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Church and served the Church in many roles over the years. He was also an avid bowler and an excellent marksman at the rifle range. Following the death of Ada in 1995, George was pleased to meet and marry Esther (Schaible) in 1997. They were blessed with 20 years together and George inherited as his newer family Esther’s eight children, David Schaible (deceased), Linda Troeller, Anita Hahn, Gloria Schaible, Pam Kohler, Steve Schaible, Martha Ellinboe and Deb Sak; her 24 grandchildren and 31 great grandchildren. George is preceded in death by his first wife, Ada and son, Robert. A celebration of George’s new life will take place on Saturday, October 7, 2017 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Luke’s Evangelical Lutheran Church (3501 Morrill Road Jackson, Michigan 49201). The family will receive friends for visitation at the Church prior to the service from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to St Luke Evangelical Church will be appreciated.
