Of Jackson, MI, passed away on Tuesday, December 19, 2017 at the age of 67. He is preceded in death by his father, Virgil L. Blackwood and brother, Lawrence Blackwood. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Connie; his mother, Frieda; his sister, Beverly Baker and his children, Evan Blackwood of Garden City, NY, Lora (Scott) Webster of Chicago, IL, as well as several nieces, nephews, loving family members and friends. He was born on February 2, 1950 in Rensselar, Indiana. He relocated to Jackson with his family as a young boy and graduated from Parkside in 1968. Gary worked most of his life in the commercial glass industry, many of those years at Jackson Glass Works. Gary and his wife worked continuously to remodel their old farmhouse. He loved being in his workshop doing woodworking and other building projects. He was adamant about doing things right the first time. He was a faithful servant in his church, Trinity Lutheran, and was always ready to lend a hand in maintaining the church and school buildings. He loved to play softball and bowl and was an avid fan of Detroit sports teams. He was a loving father, always caring and providing for his family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2017 at 11:00am at Trinity Lutheran Church, 122 W. Wesley St, Jackson, MI. with Reverend Eric Ekong officiating. There will be visitation on Thursday evening at the Chas. Burden Funeral Home from 4:00 to 7:00pm also on Friday at the Church one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church and School, Jackson, MI. Mr. Blackwood will be laid to rest at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
