She was born on November 19, 1930 in Clinton, Michigan to Ernest and Gladys Jones. She married George Callahan on April 2, 1947 (a date they could agree on, as she wasn’t amused with an April Fools wedding like George wanted). Together they traveled and raised a large family. Florence will be cherished forever by her children, Trudy Taylor, Roslee (Jim) Smith, and Gwen (Mike) Childs; grandchildren, Mellissa (Rich), Dawn (James), Nathan (Karissa), Ben (Elaine), Christine (Bill), Melony (Chris), John (Sarah), Adrienne (Brad), Holly (Jason), Gaelen (Jennifer), April, and Sarah (Gabe); God-daughter, Linda Laporte; and many great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George Callahan; children, Georgette and Barry Foster, Mary and Hugh Naylor, and George W. Callahan; and grandchildren, Jamison Foster, Beth Taylor, and Justin Smith. Florence was a quiet, calm, dependable, and ambitious woman. She went back to school after high school to obtain her nursing license and worked for many years at Doctor’s Hospital and Henry Ford Allegiance. She enjoyed reading romance novels and was a very talented seamstress, creating beautiful gowns for First Communions. She loved her black cat, Kiki, and always had her favorite treats on hand. Florence loved her family dearly and prioritized all of the kids’ events for as long as she possibly could. She loved to travel, with some of her favorite trips being to Ireland, Hawaii, Alaska, and several Caribbean Cruises. Florence brought much love and joy to the world and will be dearly missed. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, April 16, 2024 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church (120 E. Wesley St., Jackson, Michigan) at 1:30 pm. The family will receive friends for visitation on Monday, April 15, 2024 at Burden & Patience- Montgomery Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave., Jackson, Michigan) from 4:00 pm- 6:30 pm followed by a Rosary Service at 6:30 pm. Florence will be laid to rest next to her beloved husband, George, at Roseland Memorial Gardens.
