David Monroe

David “Dave” William Monroe died peacefully in his home on Thursday, November 2, 2023 in Jackson, Michigan at the age of 74. Dave is preceded in passing by his wife, Wanda, his daughter Kasey and his mother Ellen. He is survived by his daughter Kimberly (David) McLean; and grandchildren Alexander McLean and Victoria McLean, many cousins and dedicated friends. Dave was born on November 16, 1949 in Jackson, Michigan to Ellen Monroe and Richard Monroe. He graduated from East Jackson High School in 1968. He served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War, receiving two purple hearts. Upon returning home Dave worked for Goodyear in Jackson until transferring to the Union City plant in Tennessee. He later worked for and retired from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan. His friends, children and grandchildren remember him as kind and loving. Dave possessed a great sense of humor. His hobbies included classic automobiles, motorcycles and movies. He was passionate about karate, earning the rank of black belt. Both Dave and Wanda were active in local euchre clubs and bowling leagues. A celebration of life for friends and family will be held Friday November 17, 2023 at the Michigan Center Eagles from 6:00 - 8:00 PM. In lieu of sending flowers Dave asks one last time that you check your oil and the air in your tires.
