Of Jackson, passed away at her home surrounded by her daughters on Thursday, September 16, 2021 at the age of 86. She leaves her cherished memories behind to her three daughters, Claire (Anthony) Colburn, Deann (Michael) Mattis and RoseMarie (Donald Stegenga) Wallace; four grandchildren, Michael (Autumn) Mattis, Randall (Samantha) Mattis, Avery (Ashley) Colburn and Elise Colburn; seven great grandchildren and one on the way, as well as her beloved cat, Miss Lola Rose; many nieces, nephews, loving family members, dear friends, Denise Styx, Cindy Bullock, Mary Bloxom and many other friends. She was preceded in death by her father, Jennings Whitaker; mother, Ruth Ann Barnes and stepfather, Martin Taylor.
Carol Ann was born in Jackson on May 9, 1935, she was an only child. She was a 1954 graduate of Jackson High and she became a certified dental assistant in 1962. She retired in 2009 after 53 years of dedicated service at Lyons & Lyons/Dr. Cox DDS dental office.
Carol Ann was a girl scout leader. She raised horses and was a member of the Jackson Western Horseman’s Club. Carol Ann enjoyed many trips to Camp Barakel and the Wilds, making a new green (rubber snake) friend, which traveled many miles between her and her daughter (Claire) over the years. Carol Ann enjoyed playing practical jokes on her friends and family. Carol Ann’s physical heart became weak, but her true heart was big and she loved sharing her handcrafted towels with others.
Carol Ann had a strong faith in the Lord, she was saved in 1945 and baptized in 1970. She taught Sunday School for two (2) and three (3) years old for many years and was an Awana Leader. She was also a member of the Missionary Committee, Joy Fellowship and an active member of Loomis Park Baptist Church, located at 2301 N. Elm Street Jackson, 49201, where a celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. with Pastor Rich Zawadzki officiating. Interment will follow at the Hilcrest Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Burden Funeral Home (1806 E. Michigan Ave. Jackson, 49202) for visitation on Monday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and at the Church from 9:00 a.m. until the service at 10 a.m. The family suggest face covering be worn.
