Bolek love you so much buddy. I cherish our time at Loyola together, being roommates and friends ever since. You always brought the most positive energy and light to any situation. Your personality was so infectious and everyone around you was better off just because they knew you. I can’t express how much you will be missed. I know you will be looking out for us but I can’t wait until we meet again someday. Love you brother.

I have heard it said that grief is the price we pay for love.
The pain can be overwhelming and there is nothing quite like the emptiness one feels from the loss.  
There comes a time when we realize that the pain is worth the cost.  
Bolek was loved by many.
All who knew him feel the loss.
Bolek will be remembered as a kind and gentle soul.  
He had an impact on the world.
He left it a better place than he found it and that is no small thing.
Know that your grief is shared by our whole community. 



Bolek, you are always going to have a special place in my heart. I am always going to remember the time I have spent in Chicago, when you were a little boy. Each weekend you were waiting for me to come over so you could have company and fun. I’ll never forget the time when you visited me in Edmonton, with your mom and grandma. Overcoming such a long distance with a car, and that very moment when you came out of the car running towards me with open arms calling my name.

You are so deeply missed at PHP. There aren't really words that express how delightful you were to be around. Your positivity was contagious and your support to your colleagues and patients was so comforting. I will miss bringing you macchiatos from Starbucks and talking about orgone pyramids. I'm so glad I got the opportunity to get to know you. 

Doctor Bolek Payan is a beautiful person: Inside and out. 

I want to thank his family because Bolek's friendship was instrumental to my recovery from a life-threatening eating disorder in the fall and winter of 2009. 

Bolek proved himself as an honorable and invaluable friend. When my physical condition worsened, he went above and beyond to try and help me. I have no words to properly express my gratitude and love. 

Bolek was one of the best friends I've ever had and one of the coolest people I've ever met. I feel blessed to have known him and am exceptionally proud of his accomplishments. 

Dr. Bolek lives on in our hearts and eternally in Heaven. God bless. 

I had the pleasure of being one of Bolek's classmates in medical school. He was a wonderful friend and classmate. He had a very gentle soul. One of my favorite memories was throwing the frisbee around with Bolek and friends on a few occasions. 

I am deeply saddened at hearing of Bolek's passing. He was a wonderful person. He will be missed.  

Bolek was my son, Casey's first best friend. He was so polite as a young man. I was so happy that he met a nice boy to hang out with. They were so close. I'm so sad. I wish the best for his family and know that we loved him. 

Bolek always had a unique perspective on things and his thoughts often added depth to our discussions. One day we were learning about different neuropsychological tests and were given to complete a test that required using spatial relations. He was so good at this and basically completed it for the rest of us (we were nowhere close to his level). He was definitely gifted in many ways that he shared through actions rather than boasting through words. He had an independent mind.
Rest in peace Bolek. As a colleague, I will work that much harder at helping others as you had. You will not be forgotten but you will be missed.

Dr. Payan was a phenomenal man. I always enjoyed his company while working at Henry Ford. His personality was contagious and he will be deeply missed! 



Oh, Bolek…it’s still incredibly hard to accept all of this. What a kind soul. I remember meeting you as little kids. We were able to keep a friendship through all of our life phases. So hardworking and smart. Knowing how much you loved your grandma and mom, I can only believe you will continue to watch over and love them. The last time I saw you was a few years ago, you drove out from Michigan to visit me. We walked aimlessly in Chicago w/ your pup on a warm summer day. We stumbled upon a  taco street fest and ate tacos until we couldn’t anymore. I will always be grateful for knowing you.

Oh Bolek, it’s hard to accept this news. You were a kind man, and your smile was contagious. I can only imagine the pain your family is feeling. My heart goes out to your loved ones and I am so sorry for their loss. You are greatly loved and will be greatly missed. Rest in paradise my friend.

Dr. Payan this is awful news. I remember the first day I met you on BH5, I asked you what your name was and you told me Bolek, I was confused. Most doctors don’t tell you their first name, but you were always a first name basis. You were a great doctor, always seemed to know when you were on-call, exactly when things were going south and would call to check on us. You will be greatly missed. 

Dear Bolek... what can say, other than my heart hurts knowing you're no longer here. And I've only met you few times. But I wanted to thank you for being a great friend to my baby brother, Maciej. You, him and the other "gang" were thick as thieves. Being silly, young kids and burning tires in my brand new Stang. You'll be missed! You'll forever be in the hearts of those you loved, those that loved you and all those that you made a life impact on. Rest in Peace kid!

I never met him but but my condolences go to the family because he was the same age as my son with my son passed

I met Bolek when he was in his first year of residency at Henry Ford. He was so incredibly easy to work with, had a huge heart, genuinely cared for those around him, and had a personality that would light up the room. I stayed in contact with him since my departure from the hospital, and I enjoyed the conversations we had immensely. My heart goes out to his family as I know they are all in pain. 

My condolences to the family,  there are no words that I can say to heal  your pain , remembering all our good times and laughter at work at Meijer in Plainfield Illinois,  r.i.pardise my friend you will be missed 

Bolek was a fine young man who will be greatly missed. I feel privileged to have gotten to work with him. My sincerest condolences to all of his family and friends.

I was lucky enough to get to know Bolek while in college. He always cracked me up and we had so many wonderful memories linked together over those years. I haven’t really spoken to or seen him since, but he was always someone that I randomly thought of. I have so many positive memories that still make me chuckle even now. He was one of the best people I met while at Loyola and I was always so excited to see where he was going in life. From one Polish kid to another: Spoczywaj w pokoju, stary kolego. No matter where Bolek went, laughter and joy typically followed suit. All of my photos of him are these kind of silly ones as he was unafraid to be silly and wacky to make people laugh.

Bolek and I became close friends in medical school.  The picture above was from a time when we went disc golfing. He introduced me to disc golf and taught me the proper form. We ultimately disc golfed together dozens of times.

Bolek taught me to forehand throw initially, as opposed to backhand throw. After about a month of disc golfing, my middle finger was too sprained/strained too keep playing. Turns out Bolek had hands and fingers that were twice as thick as any normal human, and put my dainty hands to shame.  He may have been better suited becoming a lumberjack instead of a physician. I eventually adjusted my form, but he was always better than me.

I am shocked by his death and I will miss him dearly. The world has lost a beautiful and truly unique mind.

So sorry for your lost.  No words... God bless you.

Bolek’s favorite story was The Little Prince by Antoine De Saint-Exupery.  We read the book and watched the video every day. He was fascinated by characters and the story. He was dancing and singing with the movie. One day, Bolek gave me an envelope with a secret just like in the story the Fox had a secret for The  Little Prince. The secret was: “What is essential is invisible to the eye “.  

Bolek you were such a kind and thoughtful man.  We all learned so much from you, and you helped and healed so many.

Dr. Payan was an incredibly kind and compassionate person. He was so easy and nice to work with. I was a medical assistant for him during his residency up until November of 2020.
He will be sorely missed by many. He is gone too soon but for those who knew him, he made a great impact. My thoughts, prayers and condolences to all his loving family and friends.
