LEXINGTON - It is with great sadness that William Matthew Krech, age 50, passed away suddenly on December 9, 2018. He was born in Ithaca, NY and moved to Columbia as a young child where he attended Irmo public schools. William graduated from the University of South Carolina (Phi Beta Kappa) and received his masters and education specialist degree from Winthrop University in school psychology.
Working as a school psychologist for 16 years, William was passionate about and dedicated to helping and advocating for children and young people who were ignored or abandoned by the system. He was especially appreciative of the great number of notes of thanks he received from those students and their parents. More recently, William worked hard to create a second career as an IT professional.
William is survived by his parents, Alan and Louise; sister, Ruth (John) Fritskey of Ohio; brother, Alan, Jr. (Janet) of Colorado; nephews, Scott Krech of Colorado and Paul Krech of Washington DC; an uncle; and numerous aunts and cousins.
A private memorial service will be held at a future date.
To honor William’s devotion to helping children with their struggles, please pay love and kindness forward. You may also want to consider a donation to Thornwell Home for Children (Clinton, SC), Nancy K. Perry Children’s Shelter (Lexington, SC), Jubilee Academy (Columbia, SC), or a suitable charity of your choice.
