COLUMBIA A graveside service for Mr. William Thomas “Bill” Holton, Sr., 90, of Columbia, will be held Friday, December 16, 2022 at 10:00 am at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, followed by a 12:00 pm memorial service at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, SC. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm at the funeral home.
Mr. Holton passed away Monday, December 12, 2022 after an extended illness. Born in Niles, MI on March 31, 1932, he was the son of the late Everett and Ollie Ellis Holton. After graduating from Adams City High School in 1950, Bill served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Afterward, he worked for the City of Columbia in the computer department, from which he later retired. Bill was a longtime member of Park Street Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and was on the building committee, offering his varied skills as a carpenter and electrician. More recently, he attended Riverland Hill Baptist Church where he was a member of the Bethel Sunday School Class and was a member of The Gideons International. He was a jack of all trades who could fix almost anything. He enjoyed woodworking, photography, electronics, traveling, taking care of his home, volunteering at church, and especially spending time with his family and friends.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Mary Franklin Holton; his sons, William Thomas Holton Jr., Robert Franklin Holton, and daughter, Cheryl Holton Blanks, all of Columbia; granddaughter Emma Lyndsay Blanks of Charleston, and grandson William Lanning Blanks of Columbia; as well as his 5 nieces and a nephew originally from Dowagiac, MI., and many nieces and nephews from Columbia, SC. Bill was predeceased by parents and his sister, Doris F. Gelnett all of Dowagiac, MI.
