IRMO - Susan Rhodes Long, 72, passed away at her home with family by her side, on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. Born in Pickens, SC, she was a daughter of the late Melvin Rhodes and Juanita Ida Garrett Rhodes. She was a graduate of Clemson University where she received her degree in Sociology and Post Secondary Education. Susan worked for the SC Employment Security Commission and retired after 38 years of service. She was an avid reader who also enjoyed gardening with her grandchildren.
Surviving are her husband, Ritchie E. Long of Irmo, SC; son, Stephen Long of Germany; daughters, Mary Kathryn “Katie” Long, and Susan Elizabeth “Libby” Alshafie, both of Irmo, SC; 9 grandchildren; and brother, John Samuel Rhodes of Saluda, NC.
