Funeral Service for Ronald “Ron” Edward Chumney, 70, will be held at 9:00 a.m. Monday, January 26, 2015 at New Life Community Church of Irmo. Burial will follow at 11:00 a.m. in Ft. Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday, January 25, 2015 from 4:00 until 6:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Mr. Chumney passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2015. Born in Dayton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Thomas Everett and Opal Rhey Sisco Chumney. He was a member of New Life Community Church of Irmo. Ron served in the US Army during the Vietnam War. Following his service, he began his Police career in Ohio before relocating to South Carolina in 1975. He worked with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department, the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and the Irmo Police Department. He was a 1979 graduate of the University of South Carolina. Ron changed careers in 1981 when he began working as a Home Builder with Mungo Company and retired in 1993.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Glenda Seiber Chumney; daughter, Michelle Marie Sigman (Joel); sons, Thomas Reed Chumney (Jamie), W. Corey Chumney (Erin); sister, Millie Loftin; and brother, Ray Chumney (Dorla). He is also survived by grandchildren, Gabriel Sigman, Grayson Chumney, Lauren Chumney, Trent Chumney, Bryce Chumney, Bailey Chumney, Ally Chumney and great-granddaughter, Kharsen Brewer. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Zachary Augustus Sigman; two sisters, Wilma Sue York and Tommie Jean Daughtery.
