LEXINGTON - A memorial service for Robert Jerome Thompson, 89, will be held at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 2020 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel. The family will receive friends from 11:00 until 11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mr. Thompson passed away Wednesday, May 27, 2020. Born in Great Falls, Montana on June 29, 1930, he was a son of the late Maurice Obert Thompson and Solvieg Olson Thompson.
Robert served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam and retired after 23 years as a Staff Sergeant with the rank of E6. He was a certified Methodist Lay speaker by the State of South Carolina and was active in Prison Ministry. He was a choir director and soloist at church; director of Korean Girl’s Chorus, Seoul, Korea; and 100 Men’s Army Chorus, Fort Dix, NJ. Robert was an avid fly fisherman, a wonderful cook and was a chef for Holiday Inn and Kroger Food stores. He was a loving husband and best friend.
Surviving are his wife of 21 years, Jennifer Stanley Thompson; sister-in-law, Rhonda Hooker (Harry); brothers-in-law, Bruce Stanley (Cindy) and David Stanley (Kim); brothers, David M. Thompson (Jan) of Richfield, MN. and Stephen J. Thompson of Eagan, MN; and many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother, Donald L. Thompson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Center, 262 Danny Thomas Pl, Memphis, TN 38105.
