COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Robert “Bobby” Eugene Miner Stokes, 74, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 15, 2023, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with burial in Celestial Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 14, 2023, at the funeral home.
Bobby passed away on Wednesday, February 8, 2023. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late Edward Huston Stokes and the late Eugenia Mae Smith Stokes.
Surviving are his wife, Jacquelyn "Jackie" O'Nari Stokes; children Melissa Audrey O'Nari Black (Richard) and Michael Alexander Houston Stokes; granddaughters Hannah Claire Millen, Ashston Mercedes Black, Analise Rosalee Black, and Emily Rose Westra (Trevor); brothers Danny William Stokes and Jimmy Lee Stokes (Babs); brothers-in-law Andy Dabbs and Jamie Bagwell (Tiffany); and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister-in-law Terry Stokes, nephew Christopher Stokes, and brother-in-law Michael Dean Milton.
Bobby graduated from Columbia High School in 1966. After high school, he honorably served in the United States Marine Corp. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and is the recipient of the Purple Heart.
He and his father owned and operated Commercial Battery Sales in West Columbia for over 40 years. He loved helping others, spending time with his friends and family, and eating with his buddies at Compton's Kitchen. He was a loving husband, a devoted son, adoring father, and loyal friend.
