IRMO - Funeral services for Darr Taylor, 89, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, December 30, 2015, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church, with burial in the church cemetery with Masonic Rites. A reception will be held following the service in The Family Life Center. Darr died Saturday, December 26, 2015. He was the son of the late Malcolm Samuel and Lura Whitman Taylor. Darr was born in the Mt. Pilgrim area, moved to Stoney Hill Community, and later to the town of Prosperity. After high school, he entered into a ship fitter apprenticeship at the Navy Yard in Charleston. In 1944-46, he served in the U.S. Navy. After moving to the Columbia area in the early 1960s, he worked for Allied Chemical and before his final retirement, other jobs included Miller Tire Co. and The Coca-Cola Company. Darr was also a Freemason having just received his 60-year service award earlier this year. Surviving are his wife, Louise Humphrey Taylor; daughters, Maxine Watkins (Kent), Darlene Henderson (Jeff), Kathleen Fitch (Bryan); grandchildren, Blake Watkins, Lisa Watkins, Danielle Henderson and Michael Henderson; in addition several nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to his parents, his four brothers, Ernest, Homer, John Ralph, and Joel, predeceased him.
