COLUMBIA - A memorial service for Paul Ray Bouknight, 68, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 30, 2023 at Reformation Lutheran Church. The family will receive friends from 5:00 until 6:30 p.m. Monday, May 29, 2023, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, with Masonic Rites to follow at 6:30 p.m.
Paul passed away on Friday, May 19, 2023 in Asheville, NC. Born in Columbia, SC, he was a son of the late David Willard Bouknight and Laura Earline Bouknight. A 1973 graduate of Irmo High School, he received his Bachelor’s degree in Building Science from Clemson University in 1977. Over the years, Paul worked for Lexington School District 5, M.B. Kahn, and Stanley Smith Associates. He retired as Director of Facilities and Planning for Prisma Health. After retirement, he worked at Columbia College as Director of Facilities and Operations. He was an avid gardener who was also involved in local politics and served as the President and the Vice President of Cottontown Neighborhood Association. Paul served on the advisory board of LRADAC, was a member of Boylston Masonic Lodge, and was involved as one of the appointed commissioners of the Columbia Museum of Art. He served on the South Carolina Lutheran Synod Council and was a member of Reformation Lutheran Church, where he served in the church council.
Surviving are his spouse, Joseph T. Haynes; brothers, Mark Bouknight (Chad), and David W. Bouknight (Frances); nephew, Dave Bouknight (Lisa); niece, Pam Lowrance; grand-nieces and grand-nephews, Will Bouknight, Carter Bouknight, Morgan Lowrance, and Charlie Lowrance; and numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and cousins.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his nephew, Walter Eldridge Bouknight, and nephew-in-law, David Lowrance.
