A Mass of Christian Burial for Louis William Riga, will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, October 4 at Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church. Final Commendation and Farewell Prayers will follow in St. Patrick’s Catholic Cemetery. Vigil Prayer Service will be held on Monday at 6:00 p.m. followed by visitation until 8:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Mr. Riga passed away Saturday, October 01, 2016 following a courageous battle with Parkinson’s disease. He was born in Dodge City, KS in 1933. Mr. Riga was a devout member of Our Lady of the Hills Catholic Church where he served as a Eucharistic Minister, Sr. Acolyte and member of Joy in the Spirit charismatic prayer group. He was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. Throughout his career, he managed several restaurants in the Myrtle Beach area until moving to Columbia in 1990, where he continued management until his retirement. He was a devoted husband to Ginny Riga and a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Mr. Riga was a gentle and kind man who only saw the good in people. Faith, family and friends were of greatest importance to him. During the years before his illness, Mr. Riga enjoyed golf, shag dancing, coin collecting, woodworking and yard work.
Surviving in addition to his wife Ginny, are his children, Cindy Montello (Howard), Mike Riga (Monica), Geri Lynn Wright (John), Jennifer Manuel (Van); two step-children, Chris Studstill and Jessica Gallagher (Anthony). He is also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Kelly Riga.
