Kay Blume

Born on September 26, 1942, in Columbia, South Carolina, Kay was the daughter of the late Carl and Emma Peake. She is survived by her high school sweetheart and husband Bill Blume, their daughter Kim Folsom (Eddie), son Bill Blume, Jr. (Sheri), grandchildren Ashley Melia (Casey), Lauren Ely (Micah), Savannah Sirois (Jordan), Regan Leblanc (Stephen), Liam Blume (Alli), great-granddaughter Sophie Kay Melia, and sister Connie Bodiford.

As a woman of God, Kay’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her unwavering devotion to the Lord paired with her genuine kindness and strength touched the lives of all who knew her. Kay will be remembered as a godly wife, mother and grandmother who loved her family fiercely and whose legacy of love will extend to future generations.

Kay's life was marked by her passion for education. After graduating from Dreher High School in 1960, she later continued her education at the University of South Carolina, earning a bachelor’s and master’s degree in education. Kay’s passion for teaching led her to Dent Middle School, where she inspired countless students in sixth-grade math. She also served as assistant principal at Bethel-Hanberry Elementary and Killian Elementary.

Outside the classroom, Kay had an innate talent for interior decorating, transforming her home into a beautiful oasis for all who visited. She loved reading, bible studies, fellowship, cooking traditional southern meals for her family, having dessert for every occasion, finding the best restaurants — where she and Bill often became cherished “regulars” — and vacationing in Hilton Head, where so many special memories were made.

The family would like to thank the staff of Lakeside Place Senior Living and Lexington Community Hospice House for the care and support provided during her last few months.

A celebration of Kay's life will take place on January 27 at 2 p.m. at Saint Andrews Presbyterian Church in Irmo, SC, preceded by a visitation at 1 p.m.
