Jerry Ernest Yarborough Sr, age 82, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on March 11, 2024. Jerry was born on June 11, 1941 in Sardis South Carolina, to Julian Caleb Yarborough and Annie Mae Kelley Yarborough.
Jerry was a lifelong entrepreneur. After owning multiple 60 Minute Dry Cleaner locations in Charlotte NC, he and his wife Jackie moved to Columbia SC and started a fresh juice delivery business. Then in 1973 he opened Yarborough Bicycle World in Columbia which at one time was the largest Schwinn dealership in the southeast. He always said that seeing the joy on a kid’s face when he got a new bike was priceless. In 1986 he sold the bicycle business and began his insurance career as a Nationwide Insurance agent. After years of great success, numerous awards and being a huge supporter of his community, her retired in 2009. He attributed his success to hard work, the love of his wife Jackie, and always trusting God’s plan.
Jerry loved hunting, fishing on Lake Murray and flying his single engine airplane, all done with his family and dear close friends. Some of his favorite times were spent on the lake teaching his kids to ski and eventually being able to sit on the dock with Jackie and watch his grandkids tube and play. Most of all, Jerry loved the Lord and thanked him every day for the many blessings in his life. He was known for his sincere smile, positive attitude, generous heart and constant encouragement of others. He was a member of Riverland Hills Baptist Church, and the family would like to thank the Serving our Savior Sunday school class for their love and support.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jackie Jackson Yarborough, his devoted children, daughter Jennifer Tallarico of Mt Pleasant SC, son Ernie Yarborough (Nicole) of Lexington SC; grandchildren, Nicholas Tallarico, Alexander Tallarico, Ches Yarborough and Ella Yarborough; as well as brother JC Yarborough. Jerry was predeceased by his father Julian, mother Annie Mae, stepfather Vernon Floyd and brother Cale.
A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church on Friday, March 15th at 11:00 am, with a visitation for family and friends immediately following the service. There will also be a livestream of the service.
