When I think of Horace, I fondly remember all of the Thursday nights we watched/helped as lost souls tried to recover from addiction and regain their souls.  Lexington County Drug Court couldn't have been such a success without the great Horace!

To The Family of Mr. Horace Smith. Still can’t believe you have transitioned from earth to Heaven. Your kindness shown to so many people will always be remembered by me. Thank you again for giving me my 1st opportunity in my new Career as a Clinical Counselor.  RIP! Gone But Never Forgotten! 

To the Smith family and friends we send our love, prayers and condolences. We were neighbors for over ten years. Daphne and I used to take turns taking kids to school when out children were young.  Horace was always smiling and in good health abs energetic. We are so shocked. Horace Jr. we love you and here for you always. Daphne, hang in there. 

I just learned this today. I am totally shocked. Horace was a great guy that I knew from the gym when we went to Irmo Sports gym together. I pray that God's love will console his family. He will be missed.

Horace was one of the first individuals I meet entering into my professional career at LRADAC . We were great co workers and  built a respectful  friendship.  Horace was always a man of integrity, hardworking, and a compassion for his work.  He  was often joked about his impeccable love of fashion , sports and cologne.  Rest in paradise Horace . I am so sorry for the loss of Mr. Horace Smith.  I am one of the interns at Insights, and he gave me so many good words of recommendation and lessons that I will carry with me for many years.  He was such a wonderful and inspiring man that will be missed by all of us over here at Insights. My mom, Deborah Nye, worked with Mr. Horace at drug court for many years during my teen years.  When I would go with her he was always a friendly face.   She talked about all the wonderful work, he would do and all the people he had helped, and how kind of a heart he had.  When I was about to graduate high school, he wrote me an amazing recommendation letter for college and for one of the scholarships I was applying .  He was one of the nicest, most humble, most caring person, I have ever met.  His personality rubbed off on everyone he met, including mine.   Thank you, Mr. Horace for showing everyone what it truly means to put others above yourself.  You will forever be missed and I am truly grateful to have known you and I am definitely a better person for it.

I coached Horace at USC, he is a great example of what u can become despite hardships growing up. He was a pleasure to coach worked hard to b the best player and person he could be. He was a TRUE GENTLEMAN IN EVERY SENSE OFTHE WORD AND WAS WELL RESPECTED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM. MY CONDOLENCES AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY AND FRIENDS. To Daphne, young Horace and the rest of the Smith family. My family and I were neighbors with Horace for almost 20 years. He was ALWAYS a gentleman and kind person. I loved to workout, so of course he would give me advice on what I should and shouldn’t be doing. Additionally, he helped my son with workout regimens and protein drinks. Daphne and family please know,  my deepest heartfelt condolences are with you and your family at this very difficult time. I will keep you all in my prayers 🙏🏽

I was sad to hear this news because I will miss Horace. I am almost certain I spoke to him that day at the gym. It’s fair to say we were friends. It’s not often that I have a lot of admiration for others, but I definitely had admiration for Horace. He always took the positive side of life’s challenges. We talked often at the gym. I grew up watching Horace play football for Carolina. He was a celebrity to me in those days. I had a few Players during those days who I aspired to be like and he was one of them. In my spare time I used to draw football helmets with their numbers on them... his was one of them. I recall my father cheering him on in the living room when we would watch them play. I have fond memories of this good man. He is welcomed in heaven with the father. I look forward to seeing him again. True Hero!

I will remember Horace on the stairclimber at the gym in line with the rest of us doing our cardio and laughing and talking about food and watches and family and friends and whatever else.  He was a genuinely good, kind man.

My condolences to the family of Horace Smith. I worked at LRADAC for 10 years and he was excellent at his job with drug court. He was very well respected by the clients and colleagues of drug court. He was drug court! May Horace rest In Eternal Peace with our Lord and Savior!

I was saddened to hear of the passing of Horace. I worked under Horace in my first year of being employed at LRADAC in 2006. As I continued my years,I learned a lot from Horace. Horace was always down to earth and a kind person. I send my deepest condolences to the Smith family.

Horace hired me in 1993 to join LRADAC and from the beginning, you could tell he was a genuine person who cared about his work, the clients, and his staff. Not only that, but he talked about his family, and his son and obviously was a very proud father. Horace's smile would light up the room and he had this sense of humor that helped make other's feel at home and included. He was a champion for treatment, recovery, and for helping those with substance use disorders, who happened to encounter legal problems, have an opportunity to get the help they needed.

I remember  him at candy gathering everyone had a nice time.

Horace was so much more than the titles behind his name. He took in those that society saw worthless and showed each of us how to be priceless. Drug Court was so much more than a program because of him. He taught us how to be a family together so we could become more for our own families. And even after graduating from drug court, he stayed in touch and still encouraged us to reach for the stars. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us. Please know that you too have become our family and we mourn and pray with you during this time. 

Horace saw in me what I had forgotten about myself. He saw that I was worth saving. He cared enough to show me what recovery was and guided me through with strict discipline and love. I can say with one hundred percent confidence that I would not be the man I am today had God not brought Horace into my life. I will never forget all he did for me as a counselor, mentor and friend. My heart is broken over the loss of such an incredible man. I will continue to honor Horace in my recovery and in my life. 

We are so sorry to hear of the loss of Horace.  He was such an advocate for people with DUIs and the Drug Court community.   He really helped make these services what they are today in this state.  He will be truly missed and also as a Gamecock Alumni and former football player.  May God keep his arms around Delphine,  their children and the rest of his family during this time.

When I met Horace Smith, I had nothing. My life was a wreck from years of drug addiction and he helped me put my life back together. He believed in me when I didn't believe in myself. He was truly like a father to me. He is the reason my life is where it's at today and my life is forever changed because of him and I will NEVER forget him. Thank you Horace. I love you so much brother. 

A great teammate but better man and friend.  Even though years went by, when we got together it was as if we had never parted.  Thankful I got the privilege to have you as a friend.  I remember the road trips as players and the fun with the “boys” as alumni outside of Brice before a game.
