Helen was born in Washington, DC in October of 1940 and was the only child of Charles F. and Joan R. King. Her family later moved to Arlington, Virginia where she graduated in 1958 from Washington & Lee High School. After high school she attended the University of Maryland.
Helen married James (Sonny) Anderson in 1961 and they had 3 wonderful children. She stayed home and raised her children from 1962 – 1986. After her children were grown and gone, she became the Lay Ministries Coordinator at Columbia Baptist Church in Falls Church, Virginia. In 1999 she followed her daughter Sherry and moved to South Carolina. Upon arriving in Lexington, South Carolina she became a licensed real estate agent with Century 21. In 2002 Helen pursued her passion for church ministry and became the Director of Children’s Ministry at Chapin Presbyterian Church. She successfully led the children’s program for several years and then ultimately moved into her final role at Chapin Presbyterian Church as the Coordinator of CARE Ministries. The CARE ministry is a committee of love to the church family and visitors of the church. Helen was the official greeter of the church and made every person, who walked through the doors of Chapin Presbyterian feel welcome and loved. Her outgoing and friendly personality always shined through with every interaction she had with church members and visitors of the church.
Helen will be greatly missed by her family and friends. She was a loved member of her family, church family and the community where she lived. She had a very full, wonderful life and touched so many while she was here with us.
She is pre-deceased by her daughter Barbara Taylor (Michael) and is survived by her two children Steve Anderson (Jill) of Germantown, Tennessee and Sherry Ward (Chip) of Chapin, South Carolina. She is the proud grandmother of four extraordinary grandchildren, Helena Anderson, Tyler Anderson, Madison Ward and Wade Ward.
