Her memorial service will be held Wednesday, April 30, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Union United Methodist Church in Irmo, SC. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, will be assisting the family who will greet friends in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service.
Flora Kathryn was born in Williamsburg County, Hebron Community June 14, 1943, daughter of Annie Mae DuBose and Robert Clarence Kennedy. She graduated from Hebron High School and Columbia College.
She is survived by her first cousins, Mary Anne DuBose Douglas Lake, James Carlisle DuBose, Jr., and Judith Louise DuBose Tarleton. She is also survived by many other cousins. She was predeceased by her parents and paternal grandparents.
After she graduated from Columbia College, Flora began her lifelong involvement in elementary education. It began in an elementary classroom in Florence, SC and ended in 1999 when she retired after serving for decades in the Lexington 5 School District and finally as Principal at Harbison West Elementary School. To those who knew her as their teacher and/or Principal, her family knew her as “Flor Kathryn”! From the humble low country farming community, she hit the big time when she fell in love with her Lexington 5 School District brothers, sisters, and children. When talking about her passions in life she would beam about her extended family of students, teachers, parents, and administrators!! She made her family and friends laugh like no other and her love was unshakeable. She was a member and supporter of many civic organizations.
