Ethel "Midge" Johnson Burgess

CHAPIN Ethel “Midge” Johnson Burgess, 69, passed away Sunday, July 24, 2016. Born in Sumter, S.C., she was a daughter of the late Robbie Marion and Rudell Walton Johnson. She was a graduate of Edmunds High School in Sumter in 1965. She was employed with the University of South Carolina for over 40 years. She was a member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church where she served as a Deacon and was an officer of the Presbyterian Women. She was a member of the Lake Murray Irmo Women’s Club. Surviving are her son, Randy Gill; grandchildren, Jessica Gill and Jordyn Gill; sister, Ruth Ann Burkhalter; brother, Robbie Vance Johnson; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, David Nelson Burgess and sister, Judy Eldridge. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, Deacon Fund, 2721 Dutch Fork Road, Chapin, SC 29036. A Service of Witness to the Resurrection will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, July 29, 2016, at Lake Murray Presbyterian Church, with interment in the church columbarium. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall. Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo, is assisting the family.
