It is with immensely heavy hearts that we announce Elsie James Garrick, "Elsie Bug", went to be with her Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 22 2024. Elsie was born to Andrea and Benjamin Garrick on August 31, 2020 and was enthusiastically received by her older sister, Amelia, to make us a family of four.
Unfortunately, bug was diagnosed with a rare genetic disorder called fumarase deficiency which rendered her unable to walk, talk, eat, or perform most other daily living activities. But while her disease may have weakened her body, it did not suppress her spirit. Elsie was joyful! Despite her hardships, she was always ready to give a smile or laugh. She had beautiful, bright, inquisitive blue eyes that simultaneously spoke to you and also hinted at the girl we all wish we could have known more fully. She loved her big sister dearly and would light up at the sound of her voice. She loved mylar balloons (especially ones with faces), sparkly things, and would have definitely been a "dress up girl" like her sister if given the opportunity. Elsie was a member of the "Care Bears" class at Ballentine Elementary school and made friends everywhere she went without speaking a word.
While we are crushed to no longer have her with us, we know that she has fallen on the kind arms of her Savior Jesus Christ. Her weakness has been made perfect in the finished work of Jesus. She always knew the best was yet to come, and her life and death continue to teach us about the grace and mercy offered to all of us through Christ.
She is survived by her mother, father, sister, a host of dearly loved extended family, and a wonderful nanny who helped us care for her and loved her so well. It is with expectant hope that we wait to be reunited with our little girl, and we know that on that day we will join her with running, playing, singing, and praise to the One who has redeemed us.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Riverland Hills Baptist Church, Saturday, January 4, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation following in the Atrium.
We are so thankful for this community and the love and support that you all have shown us over these 4 years.
We are truly blessed.
