Graveside service for Edward H. Stokes, 91, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 22, 2016 in Bush River Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Wednesday, December 21, 2016 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Dutch Fork Chapel, Irmo.
Mr. Stokes passed away Monday, December 19, 2016. Born in Birmingham, AL, he was a son of the late William H. Stokes and Sara Elizabeth Lewis Stokes. He was the loving husband of 65 years to the late Eugenia Smith Stokes. Mr. Stokes proudly served in the United States Merchant Marines during WWII on numerous Liberty Ships during many campaigns. He was an auto mechanic until he and his son Robert began their own business, Commercial Battery Sales, Inc. where he remained President until his death. He attended Chapin United Methodist Church. Mr. Stokes was a proud father, grandfather, great-grandfather who dearly loved his family and will be greatly missed.
Surviving are his sons, Danny W. (Terry) Stokes, Robert E.M. (Jackie) Stokes, Jimmy L. (Babs) Stokes; grandchildren, Gene (Jan) Stokes, Michael (Alisa) Stokes, Audrey Stokes Brady, Alex Stokes, Stacey (Kris) Black, Ryan (Amy) Stokes, Mary Margaret Stokes, Joshua Stokes; great-grandchildren, Courtney, McKenzie, Lindsay, Madison, Hannah, Mya, Jaxin; numerous nieces; and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and grandson, Chris Stokes.
