Captain David Maslow, U.S. Naval Reserve (Ret.) received the crown of life and was called by his Heavenly Father on Saturday, October 25, 2014, surrounded by his wife and children. He was 61 years old. David Lee Maslow was born on June 15, 1953, in St. Paul, MN. He received an appointment to the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, MD, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1975. That is also where his heart was captured one day when “directing traffic” in Annapolis. From then on, it was Debbie and Dave. After five years of active duty including service as a Surface Warfare Officer, he entered the business community. While continuing his service in the Reserves, he then received his MBA degree from West Virginia University. He later earned his CFP and CMFC certifications and built his own financial planning business. After 25 years of service in the reserves, David retired as a Captain, U.S. Naval Reserve, where he was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and Navy Commendation Medal for service as a Commanding Officer during the first Gulf War. He was very active in his church family, faithfully serving ten years as president of the congregation at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church and as an elder. While reserved, David was well-respected for being a leader in his church, business, and home life. His pleasant, positive demeanor will be missed. He was predeceased by his parents, Evelyn and Donald Maslow of Stanchfield, MN. He is survived by his loving bride, Debra H. Maslow; son, Jason Maslow of Raleigh, NC, daughter-in-law, Susanna Maslow; grandchildren, Ryan, Kara, Luke, and Anna Maslow; daughter, Jamie Maslow Gregory of Spartanburg, son-in-law, Brian Gregory; grandchildren, Connor and Owen Gregory. His grandchildren will always lovingly remember their “Papa M.” He is also survived by two brothers, Donald Maslow and Jon Maslow; and two sisters, Cheri Zouhou and Mary Jo Gonzales.
