David, beloved father, brother, and friend drew his last breath peacefully with his daughters holding his hands, Tuesday, March 3, 2015. David, aka “Super Dave” to fellow fishermen, was born in Columbia, the son of the late Carl and Florine Ewan. He was a member of Lake Murray Presbyterian Church. Anyone who knew David understood the simple man he was. A perfect day for him started at 5:00 a.m. as he stepped into his Sperry’s, put on his Lake World Hat, and headed out in his boat to catch some stripers on Lake Murray. As he listened to Fox 102 play his favorite southern rock songs, he’d start his practice of “chumming.” He had it down to an art and by sunrise the rods he setup were all dancing. When he pulled in his first catch you’d hear him say one of his many famous quotes, “Alllllriiight!” He advocated ways to maintain the beauty of the lake and was passionate about stopping the pollution seen in the last few decades. Due to increasing illness, he resided at Agape his last two years, where he was cared for with great compassion.
He is survived by his brother, Carl Ewan III (Theresa); daughters, Carley Welsh (Tommy), Samantha Cannon (Jeremy); grandchildren, Jordan, Julia, Jack, Emmi, Samuel; and niece Jennifer Ewan.
Memorials may be made to Harry Hampton Memorial Wildlife Fund, PO Box 2641, Columbia, SC 29202.
