CHAPIN – Cornelia “Elly” Weber passed away peacefully on Wed., November 30. Born in 1926 in Vlissigen, The Netherlands (Holland), Elly enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her younger siblings, Anneke and Jan. A free and adventurous spirit, Elly enjoyed an active life. After World War II, she travelled and worked for Royal Dutch Shell in Venezuela where she briefly crossed paths with Prince Rainier and Princess Grace. Elly, with her husband Anton, immigrated to the United States in 1962, first living in New York City and then settling in Montclair, NJ. She is fondly remembered, by those who knew her, as a warm, welcoming person and she touched many lives. Elly had a kind heart, and often helped her less fortunate neighbors and co-workers. Living the American dream, she became a proud citizen of the United States. A kind and generous person, Elly enjoyed speaking with everyone, a personality trait that served her well in her many jobs within the food service industry. Elly continued to work well into her 80s, and her last job was working in a retirement home’s dining facility, serving meals to elderly residents. She also enjoyed yearly vacations, often returning to Holland and also visiting other European countries, Costa Rica and many places in the United States. Anton and Elly often vacationed with Elly’s siblings and her sister-in-law Corrie. Able to speak five languages, it was common for Elly to strike up conversations with whomever she crossed paths. Elly is predeceased by husband, Anton; sister, Anneke; and son, Anton Jan. Elly is survived by her brother, Jan Louwerse (Corrie); sons, Rudy (Mary Beth) and Robert (Kim); and five granddaughters, Amanda, Christina, Katie, Nicole, and Allie. She also is survived by nieces, Maryanne and Annette and nephew Jan. In lieu of flowers or memorial gifts, the family is asking that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org) or a local charity that assists the elderly, in Elly’s name.
