Carol Sue Sommers

Carol was born in Anderson, Indiana. She received a degree in music education from Ball State University. As an accomplished vocalist she sang with the Carolina Chorale, Trinity Episcopal Choir, The Sandlapper Singers and Union United Methodist Church Choir.

She received her Masters Degree from the University of South Carolina and became a beloved teacher at Nursery Road Elementary School from which she retired in 2001. In her retirement she enjoyed making quilts.

She is survived by Dr. Dean Sommers, her husband of fifty six years; two daughters, Cindy Sommers and Susan Kirlough; and two grandchildren, Heather and Wesley Kirlough.

A service celebrating her life will be held in the sanctuary of Union United Methodist Church, Irmo, on Saturday, February 24, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. A reception following the service will be held in the Fellowship Hall.

In lieu of flowers her family requests contributions be given in her honor to Epworth Children’s Home or Union United Methodist Church Music Fund.
