Burley W Johnson

COLUMBIA – Burley W. Johnson, Jr., age 83, passed away at home on November 30, 2019. Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at Virginia Wingard Memorial UMC, 1500 Broad River Road, Columbia. The family will receive friends immediately following the service.

Born in Cayce, SC, he was a son of Burley Wilson Johnson and Ethel Lawter Johnson. He graduated from the University of South Carolina with an engineering degree and retired from North American Phillips. Mr. Johnson served in the US Navy for 4 years. He was an active member of Virginia Wingard Memorial UMC where he was an usher, Sunday School teacher, and church treasurer. A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he enjoyed camping, water and snow skiing, motorcycle riding, and paddle boarding.

Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Nancy Lamphere Johnson; his children, Mark E. Johnson of Simpsonville, SC, Kenneth Wade Johnson (Cindy) of Pelion, SC, and Diane Scully (Mark) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; and grandchildren, Ashtyn Scully, Jarryd Scully, both of Mt. Pleasant, SC and Jessica Johnson of Pelion, SC.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sisters and brother.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 4124 Clemson Blvd, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Virginia Wingard Memorial UMC.
