Wayne Noel House

Services will be at 2 PM on Tuesday, October 4, 2016 at First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rick Davis officiating. Interment will be in Highland Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park.

Mr. House was born December 28, 1927 in Rosie, Arkansas. He and Geneva Marye Edwards were married June 12, 1948, in Wichita Falls, Texas. Upon her death they celebrated 53 years of marriage.

Mr. House moved to Texas at the age of 3 and graduated from Iowa Park High School in 1945. He attended Hardin Junior College on a basketball scholarship. He was introduced to Geneva Edwards by D.L. Ligon, his basketball coach, and eagerly tried to serve her her meals while she dined in the college cafeteria, where he worked.

He began a 40 year career with Texas Electric Service Company in 1947, eventually becoming a manager of the Iowa Park and Electra offices before retiring in 1986.

Mr. House was a life-long member of the First United Methodist Church in Iowa Park where he held many offices, including trustee, Membership Outreach member and MYF leader. Many youth in Iowa Park traveled to the Metroplex on the church bus with Mr. House at the helm on their way to SMU football games, Six Flags, and the zoo.

His love for Iowa Park ran deep. He was instrumental in bringing Little Lague baseball to Iowa Park and even helped to physically move the baseball fields from the south side of Magnolia Street to their current home on the north side to make way for Cryovac in 1974. He was a board member of the Board of Commerce and Industry which brought Cryovac to Iowa Park. He received Citizen of the Year in 1975 and Senior Citizen of the Year in 1993. He was on the Board of Directors for the Camp Fire Girls of North Texas. He was an Executive for the United Way. He proudly served on the city council and as mayor of Iowa Park. Later in life he enthusiastically delivered Meals on Wheels and helped at the Food Pantry. He was a regular attendee at all things IPHS sports. He was a huge supporter of all sports programs at the high school and did not differentiate between boys and girls.

But most of all, he loved his family. His greatest joy came from his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren in whatever they did. He was a strong man and he was a great support for them all.

Mr. House was preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Marye Edwards House; his father, William Noel House; his mother, Sara Kathryn Wheeler House; his daughter, Ann Janette House McLemore; and his brother, Billy Gene House.

Survivors include his son, Wendall N. and Becky House of Iowa Park; his daughter, Betsy and Mark Blake of Amarillo; four grandsons, Philip and Amy House of Baton Rouge; Brandon and Nicola McLemore of Iowa Park; and Carson and Jackson Blake, both of Amarillo; one granddaughter, Lindsay and Felix Reyes of San Marcos; 6 great-grandchildren; and Betty Barfield of Burkburnett.

The family will be at Dutton Funeral Home on Monday, October 3, 2016, from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.
