In 1950 Richard enlisted in the Navy and served during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Cavie Silvesta Grubbs on October 11, 1951 in Florence, Arizona. Following his retirement from the Navy in 1953, Richard then worked in oilfield construction for several years before establishing Harrison Dozer Service in 1978, where he worked alongside his son David until his retirement in 2009.
Richard was a devoted family man and is survived by his son Don Harrison (Carlene Harrison), his son David Harrison, his sister Melba Faye Harrison, his sister Jackie Fern Larson, and his brother Harold Edward Harrison. He also leaves behind his granddaughter Joy Wiggins (Charles), his granddaughter Janalyn Harrison, his great-grandson Jaidon Wiggins, and his great-granddaughter Hannah Wiggins.
Richard was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 67 years, Cavie Silvesta Harrison, his parents James Elmer Harrison and Maytie Lois Harrison, his son Darryl Harrison, his sister Elva Jean Sales, his brother Kenneth Ray Harrison, his sister Doris Elaine Stumpff, and his brother James Weldon Harrison.
Richard enjoyed spending his free time indulging in table games, puzzles, and fishing. He was a man of faith and was a longtime member at the Iowa Park Church of Christ.
A visitation for Richard will be held Wednesday, January 17, 2024 at Dutton Funeral Home, 300 E Cash St, Iowa Park, TX 76367. A Funeral service will be held Thursday, January 18, 2024 at 11:00 AM at Iowa Park Church of Christ, 300 E Park Ave, Iowa Park, TX 76367 under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the Iowa Park Church of Christ.
