Martha Jane (Brandon) Smith

Services will be at First United Methodist Church in Iowa Park, TX on July 1, 2023, at 11 am with Rev. Don Pelican officiating. A family only Internment will be at Quanah Memorial Park.

Martha was born March 30, 1935, to Orval and Ottis Brandon in Quanah Texas and spent her formative years growing up on a farm outside of Quanah and earning Valedictorian in her graduating class of 1953. She and George Smith were married on June 5, 1954, in Quanah and spent nearly 69 years together. Their married life began in Quanah, later moving to Andrews, TX, Argentina SA, Wichita Falls, finally settling for over 50 years in Iowa Park. . They were blessed with three wonderful sons and their wives who loved her dearly. She was a kind sweet friend to all who knew her. A devoted wife, mother to all, grandmother, aunt, sister and friend – she always made time for her family.

Martha worked as a legal and executive secretary in the banking business. She worked for Cooke County College and retired after 31 years with Vernon Regional Junior College. In her “spare” time she was the bookkeeper and accountant for George’s cattle operations and Dunith Oil Company. Martha and George traveled extensively in retirement on cruises and family vacations. Martha was a tireless volunteer at the Methodist Church in Iowa Park for most of the time they lived there, serving on numerous committees through the years and she was active in their Sunday School class.

Martha was preceded in death by her parents Orval and Ottis Brandon of Quanah, her brother Ralph Brandon of Quanah, brother-in-law E.A Wilkins of Lamesa and nephew Mike Wilkins of McKinney.

Martha is survived by her husband George of Wichita Falls and sons Mark and Candye of Monahans, Steve and Kathy of Flower Mound, and Les and Amy of Cypress. She is also survived by grandchildren Crystal and Aaron Burchfield of Midland, Cheyenne and Joe Thaggard of Odessa, Colt Smith of Monahans, Kathrina and Johnathan Ocampo of Houston, Benton Smith of Norman, OK, Andrew Smith and Anna Perretta of Tempe, AZ, Jillian and Andrew Gibson of Austin, Sarah Smith of San Antonio, and great-grandchildren Reagan, Rhett and Reed Burchfield, Presley and Paige Thaggard, Reese and Hayden Smith, Olivia and Camilla Ocampo. Martha is survived by her sister Wanda Wilkins of Lubbock and her sister in law Sharon Brandon of Abilene, Tx.

The family suggests memorials to First United Methodist Church in Iowa Park.
