Linda Lavern Coats, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away from this earthly life on February 21, 2024, at Hospice of Wichita Falls, after a courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by her loving family.
Linda was born on July 16, 1940, to Jack and Catherine Crumpton in Jack County, Texas. Linda spent her formative years in Valley View, Texas, where she excelled academically, graduating as salutatorian of the class of 1958. Shortly thereafter, she married the love of her life, William Royce Coats, on March 24, 1958, with whom she shared 66 wonderful years of marriage.
Devoted to her family, Linda poured her heart and soul into raising their three sons. Linda was known for always being well put together and being a fantastic cook. She was a well-known seamstress and perfectionist. She held an unwavering love for her family and friends.
Once her boys were raised Linda started her career in banking at Parker Square Bank. She also worked at Norwest Bank and Wells Fargo. After a successful career spanning twenty-six years, Linda retired from Wells Fargo.
Linda’s warmth and hospitality were evident in her love for cooking and her well-put-together demeanor. She enjoyed spending leisurely hours reading, gardening, and relaxing at Lake Arrowhead. Her retirement years were enriched by the joy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren, whom she cherished dearly.
A faithful member of the First Baptist Church in Holliday, Texas, Linda found solace and community in her faith.
Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Catherine, her brothers Larry, Jackie, and Michael, and her son Jeff.
She is survived by husband Royce of the home, son Lynn and wife Jana of Childress, son Kelly and wife Pam of Wichita Falls, brother Jim and wife Jessie of Tennessee; grandchildren Kerstie Coats of Holliday, Heather Hinson and husband Brandon of Iowa Park, Lexie Coats and Devon of Saginaw, Texas, Amanda Coats of Paducah; great-grandchildren Karter Coats of Holliday, Kason Coats of Holliday, Tayde Beckham of Iowa Park, Corleigh Nava of Holliday, and Tacelynn Hinson of Iowa Park.
Visitation will be held at Dutton Funeral Home on Monday, February 26, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM with funeral services, officiated by Randy Coats, taking place at Dutton Funeral Home Chapel in Iowa Park on Tuesday, February 27, 2024, at 2:00 PM, followed by a graveside service at Holliday Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, whose compassionate care during Linda’s final days brought comfort to her and her family. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Hospice of Wichita Falls for their kindness and support during Linda’s illness.
