Joe A. Phillips

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Monday, July 6, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Kamay, Texas, with his brother, Lemuel Phillips, and brother-in-law, Mike Birdwell, officiating. Interment will follow in Dundee Cemetery under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home of Iowa Park.

Visitation with family and friends will be held from 6:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, July 5, 2015, at Dutton Funeral Home.

Joe was born January 3, 1933 in Dundee, Texas, to parents, Rufus Phillips and wife, Opal Cavener Phillips. He married Nita Johnette Birdwell August 13, 1952 in Henrietta, Texas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He retired from American Petrofina and then worked contract pumping until 2013. Joe was a loving husband, father and grandfather, and was known by his grandchildren and great grandchildren as “HiHi”.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents and a son, John.

Survivors include wife, Johnette of Iowa Park; children, Ricky Phillips and wife, Alix, of Gainesville, Texas and Randel Phillips of Wichita Falls; granddaughter, Tiffany Owensby and husband, Aaron; and great grandchildren, Noah and Madilyn Owensby; brothers, Lemuel Phillips and wife, Oleta, of College Station, Texas and Hank Phillips of Wichita Falls; sisters, Ruby Robinson and husband, Bobby, of Seymour, Texas, and Mildred Phillips of Ada, Oklahoma.
