Harold was born Dec 17, 1937, in Vineland NJ. He spent his childhood growing up in Vineland and the surrounding area, where he met Margaret Jane Atkinson. He said that he knew she was the love of his life the very first time he saw her. Harold and Margaret were married in Warrenton VA on Sept 1, 1956.
He was enormously proud to serve his country by joining the United States Air Force in July of 1956. The Air Force called him to many places across the United States and around the world, which instilled his love of travel. One of the things he was most proud of was being accepted into an elite force, the Air Commando’s, in 1962. He also served two tours in Vietnam, in 1964 and 1967-68 and earned many medals and accommodations. He retired in 1976 and settled his family in Iowa Park.
He loved and faithfully served his church, Grace Church of Iowa Park in many ways.
Harold always wanted to help people so, after his retirement, he began volunteering. In 2005 he started driving cancer patients to their appointments through American Cancer Society’s Road to Recovery program. He became the area coordinator for the program serving 5 counties in the North Texas area, continuing for over 12 years.
He also went through the Wichita County Sheriff’s office Citizens Academy and the Wichita Falls Police Department Citizens Academy which he thoroughly enjoyed. Harold was a member and Trustee for VFW Post 8878 in Wichita Falls.
In 2022 he was selected to participate in the Honor Flight program. This program flies Veterans to Washington DC and takes them on tours of the monuments and various sights. He was so excited and proud to have that opportunity and loved talking about it and showing his mementos.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, Frances and Harold Lee Adams, brothers Gene Adams, Bob Adams and Ted Adams and sister Yvonne Koloski.
Harold is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margaret Adams. Six children Sherry Ammons, Harold (Skip) Adams, Jr, Carol Hutson, Frances (Frankie) Dietsche,Allen Adams and Benjamin Adams. Fourteen grandchildren and many great and great great grandchildren and a large extended family.
Visitation will be on Dec 2nd from 6 to 8 PM at Dutton Funeral Home, 300 E Cash, Iowa Park TX.
Services will be held at Grace Church, 1401 N Victoria Iowa Park TX, at 10AM on Tuesday December 3rd. Internment will be at Fort Sill National Cemetery in Elgin OK at 2PM.
Donations in honor of Harold’s life may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls.
