C.L Thompson, 88, of Iowa Park, Texas passed away Tuesday, the 27th of October, 2015 following a lengthy illness. C.L was a retired Air Force Civil Servant and farmer. Arrangements are under the direction of Dutton Funeral Home in Iowa Park. Visitation will be at Dutton Funeral Home Friday, October 30th, 2015 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, October 31st, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Trinity United Methodist Church with the Reverend Justin Miller officiating.
C.L. was born on July 18th, 1927 to Charlie Love and Effie Triona Dyer Thompson. He was born and raised on the Thompson family farm west of the small town of Sugden, Oklahoma. He graduated from High School in Sugden as a member of a class of 5 in 1944. He was drafted into military service in October 1945, serving in the Army of Occupation in Germany in the U.S. Army Signal Corps. Following his military service he earned his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Math and Physics from Oklahoma City University and was awarded his Masters Degree in Secondary Education and Math from Midwestern University. C.L. married his wife of 65 years, Loretta Ruth Lindesmith, on July 24th, 1950 at the First United Methodist Church in Waurika, Oklahoma. They moved to Dover, Oklahoma where C.L. worked as an educator in the public schools before entering into civil service in June of 1951 at Sheppard Air Force Base as an Aircraft Mechanics Instructor. He retired with 36 years of total federal service in 1985 as the Chief of Civil Engineering Training Plans Branch at Sheppard Air Force Base. Following his retirement from civil service he was a real estate broker and owner of Thompson Realty for many years. He continued to work his farm throughout his retirement years.
C.L is survived by his wife Loretta Ruth of Iowa Park, Texas; his a son Charles “Chuck” Thompson and his wife Lloydeane of Iowa Park, Texas; his daughter Theresa Thompson Holland and her husband Ernest of Iowa Park, Texas; 3 grandchildren Kenneth Holland of Wichita Falls, Texas, Timothy Holland of Lubbock, Texas, and Matthew Holland of Iowa Park, Texas; a niece Karel Jahns of Everson, Washington; and numerous friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister Charlotte Kennedy; and a nephew Kendal Kennedy.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls, or to the Trinity United Methodist Church Building Fund.
