Native Wichita County resident Billy Joe Carter passed away Wednesday morning October 14th 2015. Mr. Carter was born March 15th 1930 in Wichita Falls, Texas to W.B. and Myrtle Carter, the second of eight children. Mr. Carter received his education in Wichita Falls and by 1951 was drafted into the army to serve in the Korean War.
Mr. Billy Joe Carter married (Mickie) Norine Paschal Willis on March 26th 1953 and together they had two children, Joni Lynn Carter Peden and Marcus B. Carter.
Mr. Carter was preceded in death by their daughter Joni Lynn Peden; his parents W.B. and Myrtle Carter; grandparents A.L. and Margaret Carter, and Lizzie Cushman; Sisters Patsy Howell, Becky Ablia, and Sue Kiser; and brothers Bobby Glen and Jerry Lynn Carter.
Mr. Carter is survived by his wife Mickie (Norine) of Iowa Park; son Marcus B. of Nogal, N.M.; brother Marcus Leroy Carter of Iowa Park and his wife Phyllis; sister Carolyn Black and husband, Leroy of Clinton, Ill.; grandson Billy Glen Whitis of Iowa Park; grand-daughters Jami and her husband Jeremy Erskine of Houston, Tx., Jodessa and her husband Shawn Browning of Jacksboro, Tx. and Jaci Carter of Wichita Falls. Their great-grandchildren are: Sydney Sokora (Erskine), Cannon and Cash Erskine; Eli Browning; Jayton Maxwell and Kason Wells.
Mr. Carter was a member of Faith Baptist Church in Iowa Park and was active in the Senior Fellowship there as well. Mr. Carter in his early years worked for Conoco Oil Company before starting his own business in operating heavy equipment and back-hoes. Mr. Carter and his wife Mickie were volunteers with the Friendly Door of Iowa Park and participated in the meals on wheels program for those in need. He was a Mason, Veteran of Foreign Wars, and member of the board of directors for Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park.
Billy Joe loved just being a “good ol boy” and was a great fan of Bob Wills and western swing music. Many a family member and friend will miss his colorful conversations, humor, and storytelling.

Visitation will be held at Dutton Funeral Home Friday evening October 16th between 6:00 and 8:00 pm. Funeral Services shall be held at Faith Baptist Church Saturday morning at 11:00 am October 17th, with cemetery services immediately following at Highland Cemetery in Iowa Park.
