Age 96, Inverness, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 31, 2016. Born on June 10, 1919 in the Inverness Red Rows, Wallace was a son of Fred and Rose (Glawson) Taylor. He is survived by his children, Audrey (Cameron), Robert (Maureen Sullivan), David (Roberta Coole), Joan (Michael Brennan); his brothers, Earl, Inverness; Fred, New Glasgow; his sisters, Lillian, Burlington; Irene, New Glasgow; Audrey, Inverness; Shirley, Tempe Az and grandchildren, Erin (Ben Vander Meulen), Mark, Ellen, Logan, Sarah (Brennan), Kate (Brennan) and his first great-grandchild, Emery (Vander Meulen). He was predeceased by Margaret (Malcolm), his wife of 57 years; brothers, Hughie, James, Charles; his sister, Grace and his son-in-law, Murray Cameron.
Wallace was a lifelong resident of Inverness who loved and participated in numerous sports including downhill skiing, hockey, skating, fishing and darts. His passions were baseball, the Toronto Blue Jays, golf, his flower garden and the Town of Inverness. He was honoured to hit the opening tee shot at Cabot Links in June 2012 at the age of 93. He was frequently seen putting on the sandbar at the beach, inviting locals and tourists to join him, while discussing the history of Inverness and life in the Red Rows. Wallace was a carpenter by trade for over 50 years and a long standing, proud member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners, Local 1588. He served as a volunteer firefighter for many years. He loved his family and had many friends. He will be dearly missed.
Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 4th from 5-9 in Inverness Funeral Home. Funeral service will be held on Friday, February 5th at 11:00 a.m. in St. Matthews United Church, Inverness, with pastor Maggie Plant celebrating. Burial to take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Central Inverness Palliative Care Society.
