It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Teresa (Doc) (MacNeil) Doyle of Mabou, on Tuesday, February 17th, 2015. Teresa lived her 90 years filled with joy, happiness, love, faith, music and a sense of humour like no other. Teresa, daughter of the late Dr. AJ and Elizabeth MacNeil, spent her childhood in beautiful Mabou, Cape Breton, the place she loved more than any other in the entire world. The stories she shared about her adventures with family and friends continuously warmed the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
Teresa married her soul mate, Alexander Doyle, on August 16th, 1947. They spent 50 years together as partners, confidants, parents, grandparents and best friends. Together they raised five children and spent their early years living throughout the Maritime Provinces eventually calling, once again, Mabou home. Teresa loved nothing more than being surrounded by her five children and being Nanny to her 18 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren.
Teresa was a lifelong member of St Mary’s Parish, the CWL, and a very active member of her community.
Teresa was predeceased by her husband, Alexander Doyle; her grandson, Mark David MacDonald, as well as her parents, Dr. AJ and Elizabeth MacNeil and her 10 siblings, Anna, Alexander, John, Mary, Kaye, Donnie, Francis, Stanley, Daniel, and Marguerite. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. Teresa is survived by her children: Ian (Anne), Angus (Julie), Patsy (John MacDonald), Alexander (Connie), and Terry (Debbie), 17 grandchildren: Liam, Bryan, Conor, Teresa, Ian , Meghan, Tricia, Siobhan, Colm, Kathryn, Neal, Patrick, Brenden, Sean, Kaitlin, Alexander, David and 9 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will take place on Friday, February 20, between 2-4 and 7-9. Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 11 a.m. in St Mary’s Church, Mabou with Fr. Angus Morris officiating. Burial in the parish cemetery at a later date.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Michelle Murphy who provided outstanding care and comfort to Teresa as her doctor and a dear friend.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Mary’s Cemetery Fund, Mabou, St Martha’s Hospital Foundation, Antigonish or charity of your choice.
